Terms of Service
Última atualização: 2026-10-20
Este documento está disponível somente em inglês. A versão em inglês é a vinculante.
These terms cover the heuretika.com website, the waitlist, and any pre-sale or early-access offer we announce here. They are short on purpose. If something is unclear, write to hello@heuretika.com and we'll explain it.
The short version
- heuretika is run by one person, Alex Ojeda Copa, from Cochabamba, Bolivia.
- Joining the waitlist is free and doesn't commit you to anything. You can leave at any time.
- When we sell something, the payment is handled by our online reseller (named at checkout), and the app is governed by its End User License Agreement (EULA).
- Your files stay on your computer. Our apps are local-first.
- Don't abuse the site. We'll treat you fairly, and the law of your country still protects you.
1. Who we are
"heuretika", "we" and "us" mean Alex Ojeda Copa (heuretika), Cochabamba, Bolivia, an individual developer who makes desktop software for researchers. Contact: hello@heuretika.com.
By using the site or joining the waitlist, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
2. Using the website
You can browse, read and share the site freely. Please don't:
- use it for anything illegal, fraudulent or deceptive;
- sign up other people without their permission, or submit fake or automated sign-ups;
- send spam or malware, or try to break, overload, probe or get around the site's security (including the bot check);
- scrape the site in bulk or copy it to pass it off as your own;
- infringe anyone's intellectual property.
We may block access or remove sign-ups that break these rules.
3. The waitlist
- It's free and it's not a contract to buy. Joining doesn't oblige you to buy anything, and it doesn't oblige us to release a product, at a given date, price or feature set. Plans change; we'll tell you when they do.
- What you'll get: emails about the product you chose (or about heuretika in general): launch, early access, the founding price for people on the list, and occasional important updates. Nothing else, and never from third parties.
- Leaving is one click. Every email has an unsubscribe link, or just write to us.
- Age. You must be at least 16 to join.
- Founding price. If we offer a founding or early-bird price to people on the list, the exact price, what it includes and how long it's available will be stated in the offer itself.
4. Pre-sales and early access
If we open a pre-sale or paid early access, the offer page will state the price, what you get, and when you can expect it. In addition to our Refund Policy:
- you can cancel a pre-order for a full refund at any time before the product is delivered to you;
- if we cancel the product, or don't deliver it by the date stated in the offer, you'll get a full refund automatically or on request, whichever you prefer.
Early-access and beta builds may be incomplete or change a lot. Keep backups of important work.
5. Purchases and our reseller
Our order process will be conducted by an online reseller that acts as the Merchant of Record for all our orders. The reseller handles all customer service inquiries related to payment, and handles returns. We will name it on this page before sales open.
This means that when you buy, you buy from that reseller, under its buyer terms, which cover payment, billing, invoices, sales taxes and VAT. The price and taxes you'll pay are shown at checkout before you pay. Your licence to use the software comes from us, under the EULA.
6. Software licences
- Paid apps (such as Academic Studio) are licensed, not sold. Their use is governed by the End User License Agreement (EULA) that is shown when you install the app, and that we'll publish on this site before sales open. In short: a perpetual licence to use the versions released during the included update period, on up to three of your personal devices; your documents are always yours and always exportable.
- Free and open-source tools (such as zotero-agent, released under the GNU AGPL-3.0) are governed by their own licence. Nothing in these terms limits the rights that licence gives you.
- If these terms and an app's licence disagree about the app, the licence wins.
7. Your files and your data
Our apps are local-first: your documents stay on your computer and the apps don't send them to us. What the website collects, and why, is explained in the Privacy Policy.
8. Our content and our name
The site's text, design, images and code are © Alex Ojeda Copa unless stated otherwise. "heuretika" and our product names are our trademarks; please don't use them in a way that suggests we endorse you or your product. Linking to us and writing about us is always welcome.
If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them to improve our products, without any obligation to you. We're grateful for them anyway.
9. Availability
We try to keep the site running and accurate, but we can't promise it will always be available, error-free, or up to date. We may change or remove parts of the site at any time.
10. Liability
The website and the waitlist are free and provided "as is". To the extent the law allows:
- we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses (such as lost profits or lost data) arising from your use of the website or the waitlist;
- our total liability to you for the website and the waitlist is limited to the greater of USD 50 or the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
None of this limits liability for intent or gross negligence, for anything else that cannot be limited by law, or the rights you have as a consumer under the law of the country where you live. Liability for the apps is governed by the EULA, subject to the same mandatory rights.
11. Suspension and leaving
You can leave the waitlist or stop using the site at any time. We may suspend access or delete a sign-up if it breaks these terms, if it looks fraudulent or automated, or if it puts the site's security at risk.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top always shows the latest version. If a change matters, we'll email people on the waitlist at least 14 days before it takes effect. Changes never apply backwards: a purchase is governed by the terms in force when you made it.
13. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, and the courts of Cochabamba have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you may bring a claim in your own country's courts where that law allows it.
Before anything formal, please write to us at hello@heuretika.com. We'll reply within 15 days and try to sort it out within 30.
14. Translations
We may publish these terms in other languages. If a translation differs from this English version, the English version prevails, unless the law of your country requires otherwise.
